How is graffiti removed from different surfaces?

We would always advise getting in touch with our graffiti removal experts as quickly as possible after discovering any graffiti. Please WhatsApp the images to 07974 357 174.

If you remove the graffiti quickly, not only is it easier to remove but it sends a clear message to vandals that they have wasted their time. If the graffiti is left, it will tend to encourage further graffiti attacks.

Common surfaces that graffiti is sprayed onto include brickwork and stonework because it provides large canvas spaces. These surfaces are also porous and the more porous the surface the harder the graffiti is to remove. Many people assume that graffiti can be removed using a pressure washer but this is a common misconception. It is essential that you do not attempt to remove the graffiti yourself as this leads to spreading the paint around and an even worse appearance. Harsh jet washers may also damage the surfaces

We use special chemical treatments followed by steam cleaning or doff cleaning to use high water temperatures and low pressure to completely remove all traces of graffiti. The exact cleaning method will depend on the substrate, the type of graffiti paint that has been used, and the weather conditions. The most common types of paint are spray, ink or bitumen. When the job is complete there will be no trace of the graffiti, including the elimination of all ‘colour shadows’. Once complete, the surface should be brighter than uncleaned surfaces.

Are there ways to make graffiti easier to remove?

You cannot prevent graffiti but one of the best ways you can deter vandals is by removing any artwork swiftly. In areas that are targeted by vandals, we also recommend using anti-graffiti coatings. These include temporary coatings, known as sacrificial coatings and permanent coatings.

The application of these special anti-graffiti coatings makes removing graffiti much easier because they form a barrier between the material and the paintwork. We can advise about the best coatings.
